SERVICE PROJECTS THAT INSPIRE
Student 2 Steward (S2S) provides educators with a step-by-step process for developing community-based stewardship projects. These projects help your students see a link between classroom learning and their lives outside of school. Demonstrating this link improves student engagement and success. You will learn to:
- Create a high-quality stewardship project that adheres to state standards
- Identify community partners to assist with carrying out a project
- Develop strategies to raise funds for your student project
These projects allow students to gain content knowledge and become more active citizens. They will learn first-hand how to make a difference in their communities. You will help inspire them to be stewards ... they will inspire the world to be a better place.

Testimonials
"Allowing your students to become involved in important work will give them a desire to learn. Start with designing choice into the curriculum along with local topics. When students see a relevance to their work they really do think and learn. By creating an environment with choices toward a common goal we were able to accomplish more. I feel great success just listening to these students talking to each other and to adults about water."
"When you allow students to take control of their own learning the focal point shifts away from you as the provider of the content to the students as the guides to their own learning. The students generate their own ideas and therefore the learning process is controlled by their actions. You are no longer the teacher. The content is the driving force. You are purely acting in the position as a relay agent. You are a guide to help the students with the detail work."
"Starting small, allowing students to have a voice and inviting problem solving through Place-based educational practices gives students a sense of ownership as they work on service projects. It may seem daunting at first, but with an open mind, willingness to step out and try something from a different perspective practicing place-based education is life changing for both teachers and students."
"Place based education has changed the way I teach because it is not putting in a project for the sake of doing it, it is finding something meaningful to students and then incorporating their learning around the project. The biggest thing I have found is how many things you can incorporate that have meaning to the students."
